Part II of my Spring Fling podcasts. While the last one was very alternative ... "take you on journey" (and all that), this is just pure fun pop and dance music.

Beyond April's Coachella 2013 podcast, it's been two full months since I've finished a 'cast with the tracks that I personally am really feeling the most.

Although it's coming at the end of the month -- Memorial Day weekend to be precise -- I'm so excited for this line-up that I literally can't type the text fast enough to get it out.

I've divided "Spring Fling" into two parts -- the first is "Soul" -- they're the tracks that I'm feeling the most emotional connection with this month. I think this mix is truly the best selection of songs I've ever put together and I'm so excited about it. It travels from some old school NYC house, to a bit of a Daft Punk-a-thon ... then heads into a bit of white boy EDM land, before emerging into some serious diva sould realness. It's a JOURNEY, it thrills me for the whole ride, and I hope it does the same for you too!

Part II -- "Body" -- is laid out and ready to follow soon after. It's mostly all pop dance music, and thematically will have a VERY different feel than Part I. Both mixes pay small tribute to the late Peter Rauhofer, a house DJ and producer who was truly larger than life. I had thought about making an "all-Peter" podcast, but in the end I believe there are others who are much better suited than myself to do so. Of course, the influence that his music has had over me is immeasurable.

So, throw "Spring Fling" on your iPod and get down, because I'm excited to get you movin'.

Hey Music Lovers,

Wow, it has indeed been almost two months since my last Podcast. Needless to say, I've started a new full-time job and I've been working my little behind some very long hours getting a new TV show off the ground.

I'm thrilled to get back to you with my February chapter, "Love Stinks." I'm trying to get back on a once-a-month regular posting schedule.

OK, I'll begin by saying, "I know this is a long set" (1:52, to be exact). But it is absolutely one of my favorite live sets of all time. Yes, I could have broken it up into two parts, but it wouldn't have worked as well.

This set was my 2nd time opening for my buddy, DJ Ryan Kenney, at the Proper party he's been throwing in LA this fall. And for me, this set really represents my sound as strongly as ever -- a combination of the right now, 5 years ago, 10 years ago, and house music across 3 decades.

This was played live, not mixed together in the comfort of my home, and to me, that makes for more fun listening. Funny enough, the mixing is better than my last "Leftover" set (which was mixed at home).

Again, yes, it's long. But give it a listen... I think you'll be glad you did.

Because I decided to go into a 20 minute old school non-vocal set 40 minutes into "Leftovers, Part 2," the podcast doesn't work quite perfectly for a "1-Hour Workout."

Here's a cut down 1-Hour version, with just the vocal tracks left in. It makes for a better fit for gym use and long runs.

There are no chapter breaks in this version though.

What an amazing weekend last weekend, playing Jason & Fred's Halloweenie 2012 party for the first time!

For anyone who missed my set in the outdoors / VIP area from 12:30 - 2 AM, I've recorded it and turned it into a podcast for you and everyone you know to enjoy! Throw it on for your Halloween event tonight and it's an instant spooky party jam!

I've been listening to so much new music lately for my upcoming gigs this weekend that I'm feeling completely inspired. For those of you who haven't heard of Paloma Faith yet, get ready. Her debut album is fantastic -- reminds me a bit of Anastacia and Joss Stone -- and the remixes of her new song "Picking Up The Pieces" are simply gorgeous.

Who isn't excited for the new James Bond film, "Skyfall" -- or, moreover -- who isn't already excited about Adele's new theme song? Also from across the pond, British "X Factor" semi-finalist Misha B has delivered a home run with her 2nd track, "Do You Think Of Me." And while my friends & fellow music-lovers know about my obsession with Usher's new track, "Numb," the Wideboys remix elevates it even higher.

I had the honor of DJ'ing and coordinating music online for Out Magazine's 20th anniversary celebration, which took place on October 9th, 2012 at the W Hotel in Hollywood and the experience was an absolute blast. 

For anyone who wasn't able to attend, I am posting my live set right here on podomatic. This first half, which took place before the night's speeches, covers the music that defined our LGBT lives from Out's inaugural year, 1992, all the way through 2001. This was a great era for music and I had a blast listening back at the music from these years. After the foray into my own personal indulgences with "NYC Made Me Do It," I'm returning to my high-energy roots with Part 1 of my ROCK-Tober podcasts. Playing around here with some of the new tracks I'll be using for my live appearances this month (finally... I think I'm close to playing my first after hours!)

This has been such an incredible fall for new music... I'm absolutely inspired by the new albums from Ellie Goulding, Dragonette, the xx, The Killers, Pink, Paloma Faith and No Doubt - and I'll be featuring a lot of these artists in these next two podcasts (on a side note, forgive me for those who hate it... but I'm obsessed with the new Taylor Swift song right now). And there's more to come with Nelly Furtado's and Calvin Harris's full albums around the corner.

I also pulled out some classics -- Deniz Koyu's "Tung" reminds me of Tim Rex's "Relentless" that I had to try these two together. I have a lot of fun in the middle of this one using these two along with Peter Rauhofer's "Stand Up" by Magic Cucumbers. And this new mix of Whitney's "How Will I Know" is fantastic.

I've finally sat down and created the mix that I've wanted to create for months now!!!

This is definitely a sound unlike any of my previous Podcasts and yet it's a sound that I love so much. Inspired by my recent late-September week in NYC, this is a much more down-tempo / chill and old-school house inspired set, with quite a bit of alt influence as well. This is the kind of set you'd hear out in NYC at Cielo, Griffin and The Park (so, consider it my audition tape for those places... Jared & Josh, Brian & Shawn!). It's the kind of set that you can put on for a long car road trip or an afternoon sitting by the pool. And I'm happier with it than pretty much any Podcast to date. This one is a journey... with very distinct sections... so join me on it.

It's also in 320 kpbs bit rate (all of my other Podcasts to date have been 192), so while it's a large file to download (220 MB -- it is also an hour & 1/2 long!), the sound quality difference should be worth it!

I'm going to be posting 3 more Podcasts this month -- ROCK-TOBER (Parts 1 &2)... which is much more my typical high-energy sound, and a special mix for my house-mates, J & G... with some of their favorite songs of all time.

There has been so much amazing music coming out lately that I've barely been able to contain myself. As Summer 2012 comes to a close, I am feeling inspired and rejuvenated musically, and I wanted to create a couple of Podcasts to share some of the tracks that I'm most excited about right now.

This has been an incredible summer, during which I've finally launched the DJ career that I've been talking about for years. As I begin to develop my sound, I've been blessed to now have played 5 times now at Here lounge, an awesome San Diego Pride tea dance, last weekend's awesome "Moulin Rouge" event at the Hollywood cemetery and numerous house and private parties. It's also a month which I associate with dancing and having a lot of stupid fun.

Part 2 of the Coachella extravaganza... because one hour just wasn't possibly enough.

In many ways, I think this is the stronger hour. Part 1 primarily featured Martin Solveig, Calvin Harris & David Guetta. This hour focuses on Swedish House Mafia (and two of its individual members; Axwell & Ingrosso) & Avicii. I'll be the first one to say that my mixing and transitions are MUCH stronger on Part 2 as well.

I hope this year's Coachella didn't mark the pinnacle of EDM (which, as amazing as it was, it certainly could be qualified as such... it certainly doesn't get too much better)... rather, I'd like to think it marked just the beginning.

Those who have experienced Coachella know what a magical musical experience it is. There's nothing quite like watching the sun set in the Indio desert, as the night lights up in neon colors while you & your friends are hustling from finishing hearing one amazing band in order to catch the tail end of another. This year was my 2nd Coachella, and it was marked by an amazing time with great friends, old and new alike.

This year's Coachella was especially strong in the EDM arena. Many of us listened to dance music long before its time in the limelight; as it has been for the past couple of years. Festival headliners including Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Alesso, Avicii, Martin Solveig and Jacques Lu Conte all played Coachella sets -- and not just once this year, but rather, two weekends in a row. They brought guests on stage for their sets which included Rihanna, Usher, Sia, Dragonette and more.

The two parts of this Podcast represent the best of the electronic music that I heard this year at Coachella. Certain songs -- the Alesso remix of David Guetta's "Titanium" (feat. Sia), the Knife Party remix of Swedish House Mafia's "Save The World," Sebastian Ingrosso's "Calling" and Avicii's "Fade Into Darkness" vs. Florence + The Machine's "You've Got The Love", Avicii's "Levels" and Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" (which hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 the same week) -- seemingly showed up in every DJ set.

So, I present for you... the EDM Coachella that I, DJ Blacklow, experienced in 2012 -- it might have been slightly different for you, but these were the songs that have been stuck in my head for a full week since my drive back to LA on the 10 freeway. The mixing's not perfect (it can be hard syncing a 95 BPM song into a 128!), and it's some of the most driving music I've DJ'd with to date. Finally, my first podcast experimenting with a totally different sound. I'm so excited about this podcast, because it's a totally different vibe for a totally different club environment. Much more downtempo and chill, with a lot of mash-ups and other unexpected treats. And moreover, it all mixed just perfectly. I had so much fun making this one. Bring it on, Silverlake and Williamsburg!
